(Hollywood, CA) – July 23, 2019 – Continuing a decade of success, achievement and growth, The Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) announce esteemed songwriters and artists, SIEDAH GARRETT and RALPH JOHNSON to the HMMA Advisory Board and Voting Academy. These luminary artists join an elite group of entertainment professionals that include songwriters Diane Warren and Allan Rich, Ralph Johnson’s bandmate Verdine White (Earth, Wind & Fire), Dave Mason (Traffic), Nile Rodgers (Chic), Adam Gaynor (Matchbox 20) and award-winning film composers John Debney (The Greatest Showman, Passion of the Christ) and Christopher Young (Pet Sematary, Hellraiser)
Held in November, the HMMAs have been consistently accurate in selecting nominees and winners that proceed to be nominated or win at mainstream award shows including Golden Globes, Grammys and Oscars months after the HMMA main event. Recent examples in film: 2018 HMMA winners included “Shallow” (A STAR IS BORN) which later won the 2019 Oscar, Golden Globe, and Grammy. Also winning a 2018 HMMA crystal was Ludwig Goransson for his score to BLACK PANTHER, which also won the 2019 Oscar and Grammy. At the 2017 HMMA event, Alexandre Desplat won Best Original Score (THE SHAPE OF WATER) then won the 2018 Golden Globe and Oscar. 2016’s HMMA Best Song winner “City of Stars” (LA LA LAND) won the 2017 Golden Globe and Oscar. Siedah Garrett is an R&B singer, Academy Award-nominated and Grammy-winning songwriter and performer and most likely best known for co-writing Michael Jackson’s worldwide hit, “Man in the Mirror.” A triple-threat singer, songwriter and performer, Siedah has written for a diverse selection of recording artists, from Aretha Franklin to Al Jarreau, from The Corrs to Vanessa Williams, and from Barry White to Amy Grant. Ralph Johnson is an award-winning American musician, best known as one of the original members, percussionists and vocalists for Earth, Wind & Fire. Among his accolades are Grammy Awards, American Music Award, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Songwriters Hall of Fame. Ralph “Slick” Johnson is no stranger to the industry, as his resume reads of music royalty.
