(Hollywood, CA) – July 15, 2019 – As part of the celebration of its first decade, The 10th Annual Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) announces a strategic partnership with ISLAND BLOCK RADIO on the Dash Radio network.
At the helm of Island Block Radio (wearing several hats) is co-owner Joey “Q” Quenga, producer, creative director, on-air personality as well as program director. Publicly known as “Q”, Mr. Quenga is a member of the HMMA Selections Committee, overseeing the categories of R&B/Soul and Reggae and co-hosts select “HMMA Presents” showcases as part of the ramp-up to the HMMA’s ten year milestone main event on November 20, 2019 at The Avalon, Hollywood.
Along with co-host and business partner, Joe “Savage” Faavae, the two set out to create a form of ethnic media for our Pacific People in the United States. In such a diverse city as Los Angeles, they felt that there was something missing for our community. Since Hollywood is the entertainment capital of the world, why was there not a platform for Polynesian, Micronesian and Melanesian people?
Joe Sav and Q created “The BBQ Show” which was the first attempt at media. That platform grew to be syndicated on 3 networks: Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Arizona. With the success of the show, it caught the eye of DJ Skee and Dash Radio. Dash Radio is a digital radio broadcasting platform with 80 original stations. These stations are curated by DJs, radio personalities, musicians, and music tastemakers. The platform includes partner stations curated by Snoop Dogg, Kylie Jenner, Lil Wayne, Tech N9ne, Borgore, B-Real of Cypress Hill, and others.
HMMA founder and executive producer Brent Harvey explains, “The HMMA is thrilled to have Q as part of our inner circle of professionals that really care about music and the artists that create the diverse styles heard on Island Block Radio!”
Since its inception in 2009, the HMMA recognizes and honors the music of independent, emerging artists from around the globe, right along side mainstream and celebrated artists, composers and songwriters such as Diane Warren, Earth, Wind & Fire, Smokey Robinson, film composers John Debney, Alexandre Desplat and Oscar winning songwriters Lady Gaga, Mark Ronson and Justin Hurwitz.
